MARY'S DAUGHTER PLAY BY BLAK RAPP M.A.D.U.S.A.
Mary's Daughter is an autobiographical drama that: seeks to contextualize black women's lives as a complex interaction of identities and illustrates the intersecting issues of race, gender, religion, activism and mass incarceration with Hip Hop as a lens to view the cultural climate in which they exist.
M.A.D.U.S.A., whose name is an acronym for "Making A Difference Using Skills and Activism", uses her vast knowledge and experiences to relate to the masses. Her activism began in the mid-2000s when, as a student at the University of Pittsburgh, she participated in her first protest, a rally against police brutality. From there, Pittsburgh remained a powerful backdrop for the Harrisburg-born, Houston-raised artist's development.
This 75-minute play expounds on the definition of Black feminist artistic resistance, taking the audience on a journey through Blak Rap p's experience as a formerly incarcerated , bi sexua l muslim , activist and artist. This journey will travel through five monologues, original poetry, rap songs and dance - with each scene reflective of a different part of her lived in experience.

Blak Rapp M.A.D.U.S.A. emerges from humble streets, painting a vivid picture of her culture and her vision for social justice and spiritual freedom. Poet, activist, historian, International Hip Hop Artivist she uses Hip-Hop music as a vessel to channel her powerful anthems for political movements for equity and Human Rights. M.A.D.U.S.A, whose name is an acronym which stands for Making a Difference Using Skills and Activism, shares her vast knowledge and experiences through spoken word and melodic lyricism to connect with people of all walks of life. She has performed at numerous poetry slams, concerts, conferences, and rallies nationwide. A committed youth mentor she has worked with young people through various community based organizations including 1 hood, Community Empowerment Association, New Voices Pittsburgh, Urban League Charter School and SOUL (School of Unity and Liberation).
